Blest are the pure in heart: anthem for unison voices, with optional solo, and organ. Dedicated
to the Choir of St Lawrence’s Church, Hatfield. Composed December 26, 2001.
Mallard Music. “The popular Walford
Davies setting of the text is very easy for four-part choirs, but now here is
an easier setting, since the tune is in unison throughout with optional
indications for each verse as Solo, Women, Men and Full. The simple and
memorable melody is repeated for all verses, as is the organ accompaniment. The
only variation is the organ link between verses three and four – which, in a
nice touch, subsequently becomes the music for a final three-bar Amen. This is
a useful piece for small numbers of singers who do not want to divide into
separate parts.” Church Music Quarterly

·
Adam lay ybounden: carol setting for
unison voices/S.A.T.B. and organ. Dedicated to the
Choir of Saint Lawrence’s Church, Hatfield. October 10 2005. Banks Music
Publications. “Hoyle’s setting of Adam lay ybounden
is ideal for youth choirs or parish choirs who do not have the luxury of all
four voice parts. The melody has a modal feel, perfect for the
fifteenth-century text, and is written for unison voices, contrast being
achieved through the alternation between men’s and women’s voices. The melodic
range is limited, never moving too high, so beginner singers or young voices would
cope well with it. Simple and effective, this arrangement should be a winner.” Church
Music Quarterly
·

a simple setting of a German lullaby in ¾ time which would be suitable for many
parish choirs.” Cathedral Music
